Shirley Rothera is a British artist who has completed this wonderful pastel of an architectural view of a Cathedral building. It is utterly brilliant as it doesn't show the whole building but rather a part of it in great detail. You don't need to see the whole building to know what it is, and being absorbed into this portion of the building makes your imagination work.
It appears to possibly have been a quick sketch, albeit a brilliant one, as it is on everyday brown paper and doesn't even seem to have been neatly cut around the pastel. It is almost that on a whim, Rothera captured this beauty. Her skill and ability allowing an effortless perception be so perfect. It certainly makes it an intriguing piece.
The pastel is charming. As it doesn't appear to have been a piece which took years to complete and prepare, there are a couple of tiny tears in it, and as I say rough around the edges. It did however come out very well and someone has taken the time to frame it professionally in a double cream and green mount, and then in a very quirky shabby chic'd green and gold painted wooden glazed frame. The frame goes very well with the greys, whites, blues and blacks of the pastel.
I think this is a gorgeous piece, perfect contemporary piece for a home or office. Maybe for someone into or intrigued by architecture, history or theology? Just a thought.
