Wonderful and pretty ceramic lamp, which is excellently preserved, made for St Michael (aka Marks and Spencer) in the 1970s. It is a delicate oriental style with a western twist. Perfect small ginger jar lamp, ideal for a bedroom or cosy living space. It is sold as working and has been insulation tested and had a new plug fitted.
The ceramic finish is glossy and covers the pretty roses and rosebuds. It has no crazing or cracks. There are minor production blemishes in the lamp, but nothing to worry about. The elegant floral design is timeless and is perefect for a shabby chic, English country or cottagecore style.
The ginger jar shape was very common in 70s and 80s. It is classic and and creates lovely curved lines in a base. It is likely this base would have been finished off with a bell shaped or empire shaped shade. One could go a bit more contemporary nowadays - maybe with a drum shape or the such?
Clearly perfect as a bedside lamp, but wouldn't look out of place elsewhere in the house. Has new plug and takes standard bayonet. Original wiring which has only been insulation tested.
