Vintage Rush Seated Wooden and Rocking Chair Elm
I would date this as early 1800’s.
Apart from a repair to the back it is well preserved and the frame in good condition.
I am not sure of the type of wood of the frame, but am 99% sure it is elm.
The frame is sturdy has a dark stained finish.
The rush is nearly fully intact. There is one visible break that I have shown in the images. One strand to the front and one to the back is loose but can be easily glued.
It looks like the top cross stretcher to the back has been knocked off before as there has been a fresher stretch of wood applied and the areas to the ends have pieces of wood missing. The repair however is very robust.
This is a good size. Normally rocking chairs take up a large area but as the actual curved rocking bases are short this will not.
Good condition, other marks commensurate with age.
