This is a type of valet chair, also known as a valet stand with the built in seat. Essentially it's a piece of bedroom furniture designed to hold or hang clothing on the upper frame, while the seat below is there for sitting, for instance when putting on shoes for the laying out of smaller items.

Made in the 1960s or the 1970s the frame is a tubular steel with a brass plated finish, bent into shape the top is formed like a coat hanger for jackets while the crossbar is often included for trousers. The iconic strips of wood on the sides are made of teak and used decoratively to give it a warm ‘modern’ touch.

It has a padded foam base which has been covered in vinyl, the button tufting helps keep the padding in place and gives it a finished look. It has a cool label...'Relaxafoam'

The condition Is very good, the seat is really well preserved and still maintains its original shiny lustre. There are some marks to the finish inside the tray which will be from the cufflinks or watches or other metal objects.

There are minor signs of surface deterioration especially to the bottom of the steel frame which, as you can see in the images, does not really detract from the piece at all indeed I would say adds a little age worn authenticity.
