Vintage rectangular table lamp with Chinese colouring and design, red and gold, symbols, working table lamp

Unusual shape and style vintage table lamp. Rectangular. Deep wine red or burgundy in colour, with gold finishes. Includes a Chinese (or Asian) letter / symbol on the front. I have tried to decipher what the symbol refers to, but I am embarrassed to say that I have not succeeded. Perhaps you will have more luck than me. The red colour is very much in keeping with a Chinese theme. The lamp is in excellent condition with only the smallest and fewest of marks commensurate with age. The felt underside does prevent scratching of a surface but is a little upturned in one place. The lamp is working but has not been professionally tested. Advice is to get all vintage items checked, tested and or upgraded. This is a super lamp - would no doubt look fantastic with a gold coloured shade - could carry off a cone, drum, square, or many other shaped shades. I hope you like this super lamp.
