A wonderful vintage panoramic print of Edinburgh. Originally an engraving from around 1870 by Duncan & Godfrey. These were lithograph engravings which were then handpainted. This version is likely a mid to late 20th century replica copy of the original prints, but still vintage. It has authenticity labels on the back. The original engraving is wonderful - shows all the key sites and scenes of Edinburgh and really brings to wonderful city if late 19th century to life. In a professionally framed vintage hand drawn mount and frame. Ready to hang.
Wonderful view of the city, from just outside the city - I think from near Arthur's Seat - note the sheep in the foreground. These prints were made for wider publication and circulation. This particular one was published by Roberts & Leete of London. Print is in very good condition.
The mount is thick cream card, it has spotting from age, but its multiple hand drawn framing lines are exceptional and show the age of the mount and frame. The painted gilt wooden frame is in pretty good shape with customary marks and scratches etc but still very vintage and charming. The overall picture is ready to hang.
A wonderful gift for someone who is from Edinburgh or Scotland, is in Ediburgh or Scotland now, or someone with connections. Of course also a lovely gift for someone who loves old cities and their histories.
