How handy is this wooden box. It has a lid to it and handles for carrying. It is a great height as a stool / chair particularly in a bathroom or bedroom, and it is solid enough to sit on. But it is also a very attractive item to use as a storage box, toy box, trunk or even a laundry box.
It has a solid structure to it, the main sides are made of pine, whilst the base is more of a hardboard or mdf. It is well made and sturdy. The lid fits very neatly – I love the hole/handle in the lid as it enables you to easily lift the lid up.
This box may have been natural wood, then painted white and now painted a turquoise or duck egg blue. It has been upcycled previously and it could be again. The paintwork has rubbed off in places and the one side has not been finished as well as the rest (wonder who did that side!). There are also some marks on the paintwork, a few of which seem to be a varnish or something and so very hard to remove. These marks do not detract from this great item, but I did want to point them out.
If you are going to upcycle or refurb again, then depending on the colour you might be choosing, you could use the current colour as your base coat. Of course you could shabby chic the whole things with wire wool giving it a more rustic finish and blend in any current marks.
All in all, this is a super vintage box – great for the bathroom or bedroom as a stool and storage box. Great in a nursery or playroom for toys. Great in a living room to chuck, I mean put, all those extra bits that hang around – books, tablets, slippers, pets’ toys etc.
