This is a charming vintage painted pedestal desk featuring a classic green leather top with gilt tooling, adding a timeless character and authentic aged appeal. Estimated to date from the mid-late 20th century, this desk has a solid and substantial construction and is made in the traditional antique style with two pedestals supporting a deep writing surface.

The leather inset is attractively worn with marks and scratches consistent with decades of use, showing its working history. The leather surface retains the decorative gilt border, though the leather itself is cracked and marked with areas of discoloration that highlight the piece’s vintage authenticity. The front edge shows an area where the paint has worn away completely, exposing the bare wood beneath for a distinctive rustic look. Notably, there are approximately four small areas where the leatherette material has been lost, and what appears to be a removal incident, where some paint on the front has been dislodged, not due to normal wear and tear.

This desk has been painted in a neutral green and creamy tone that complements many interiors, giving it a shabby chic aesthetic. The paint finish is distressed in places, with chips, scuffs, and rubbing on edges and corners, enhancing its timeworn charm. There are a total of nine drawer fronts: three shallow drawers across the top and four single and a handy large double deeper drawer, disguised behind a double front down the pedestals. Each drawer retains its original brass swan-neck handles which have developed a warm aged patina. The drawers run smoothly and are clean inside, showing minor wear marks from use.

The desk can be separated into three sections for easier transportation: the two pedestal bases and the top surface lift apart. This makes it much simpler to move into a home office or study. The back is finished so it can stand freely in the centre of a room if desired.

Overall, this is a beautiful example of a vintage writing bureau or work desk, perfect for adding character to any home office, study, library, or creative workspace. It offers a large surface area for laptops, paperwork, or writing and plenty of storage space for stationery and essentials.
