This is a delightful vintage oak fire screen dating from the early to mid-20th century (c.1920s–1940s), featuring an original hand-embroidered panel set into a solid oak frame with curved feet. Traditionally used to soften the heat of open hearths, firescreens like this one are now sought after for their decorative charm and period style. In superb condition.

The embroidery depicts a lady in a bonnet and full dress, standing among garden flowers including gladioli and daisies. Stitched in soft muted shades of cream, green, lilac, orange, and brown on a natural linen ground, the design has a pastoral, romantic feel typical of early 20th-century decorative needlework. It is very delicate work.

The wooden frame is made of medium oak, with a warm grain and original finish. The screen is not glazed (no protective glass), so the textile is exposed; this does aid transport and will ensure you don't end up with any broken glass if the screen ever gets knocked. The embroidery is well preserved, with only very light age-related wear, while the oak frame shows some small surface marks and signs of age consistent with vintage use. The screen stands firm on its two feet.

This charming fireside accessory makes a lovely cottagecore, farmhouse, or period-style décor piece and could also work well as a decorative textile panel in a bedroom, hallway, or living room. Perfect addition to a comfy cosy room.
