This lovely late Victorian solid brass coal scuttle is a charming piece of fireplace history. It retains a rear shovel, likely a later addition from the 1940s, with some surface rust present.
The scuttle itself is fully intact and features its original metal inset, a rare find as it remains completely erosion-free and fit for use. While coal is less commonly used, this piece is perfect for storing kindling or other fireplace accessories.
Presented in its age-worn finish, the muted gold brass showcases a rustic charm. There are signs of oxidation near the hinge, and while it is not shiny brass, it offers a delightful vintage aesthetic. Of course, it can be polished further if preferred, but many love its natural, weathered look.
The handle appears to be lignum vitae or a similar style of wood, adding to its character. The scuttle sits elegantly on brass bun feet, completing its timeless design.
