This is a striking vintage folding screen featuring two hinged panels with a distinctive double-sided design, offering two entirely different aesthetics depending on how it's displayed. On one side, the screen is upholstered in a warm gold damask-style fabric with a floral jacquard pattern. The textile has a soft sheen and subtle texture that lends a sense of quiet luxury, perfect for traditional or classic interiors. There is visible discolouration and minor staining along the seams, as well as age-appropriate wear, but the surface remains largely intact and visually appealing. To the bottom there is damage where the fabric has split from the base.

The reverse side is far more dramatic, featuring hand-stitched or appliqué bird motifs set against a black background. The birds, possibly geese or cranes, are rendered in warm golden thread with red accents, flying across the panels in a dynamic arrangement. This side has a bold chinoiserie or Japanese screen influence. However, there is significant wear and damage to this surface, the upper and lower borders show peeling and missing fabric, and there is tearing in places. Despite the damage, the artwork retains a strong visual impact and would work well in theatrical or vintage-themed settings. Please take a very close look at all of the images.

Each of the four wooden panels is framed in dark-stained timber, hinged with traditional brass hardware, allowing the screen to be flexibly arranged or folded flat for storage. The top of each panel has a subtle arched silhouette, softening the overall look and adding period charm.

While the piece shows its age with wear, fraying, and lifting materials, it remains structurally sound and full of character. It can be used as a room divider, a statement backdrop, or a unique piece of vintage décor with both subtle and ornate sides to suit a range of settings. Whether restored or left as-is for its authentic patina, this is a beautifully expressive screen with genuine vintage appeal.

These will be delivered by hand by a proper furniture courier.
Delivery is free to mainland England and Wales only.
There will be a cost anywhere else so please, contact us for a quote.
This will cost us between £60-80 to deliver, so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
It will take about 2 weeks.
