Vintage colour photograph, 158cm wide showing a panoramic view of Constantinople (Istanbul) - 1920s original vintage wooden glazed frame

A wonderful historic panoramic view of today's Istanbul, then Constantinople. Capturing a very wide angle view of the city on the Bosphorous. The city looks fairly modern, as this particular older part of Istanbul has probably not changed very much since the 1900s, but what gives the cityscape age away is the large number of steam and sail boats in the harbour and on the water. A wonderful display of how travel would have been back in the early 1900s. NOt much air travel, the world travellers doing their stint of grand touring would most definitely arrived in Constantinople by boat or train - I am sure if you knew where to look in this photograph you would fin the station and possibly even some trains. Just a magnificent vintage capture of a hugely historic city - was Constantinople centre of the Ottoman Empire, and now Istanbul a 21st century city straddling the far reaches of Europe.
The photo is ever so slightly faded, but still very visible. It has got spotting from age, the outer edge is spotted too. Likely two photos connected hence the connecting join in the middle. The incredibly wonderful wooden vintage frame and glazing has held up well - it has presumably been relocated a few times in its life! The frame has a few knocks and marks but could easily be stained, oiled or marked to hide any blemishes you might want to - or keep it as a vintage reminder of the history of this brilliant panorama. String is intact so ready to hang. A light clean up nd you will have a super duper photographic image of old Istanbul to peruse.
