Vintage black gesso frame with a landscape watercolour painting, original vintage painting in vintage black glazed frame, early 1900s

There are two reasons why you might buy this painting - 1. the painting is delightful; a simple but wonderful depiction of a landscape with rural houses in the foreground. No special level of detail in the painting but it still conveys a wonderful sense of the place; deep heavy sky, distant hills, a hamlet for countryfolk, all signed by Ridley. Perhaps a painting completed whilst on a holiday or sojourn somewhere. The second reason is the fabulous black moulded gesso wooden frame. Also early 1900s. Original wooden back, original string, attractive wooden frame with flaked and broken black gesso on it. Deep green mount. Whilst knocked about a bit, it is really quite attractive. Could easily be used to frame something else.
So there you have it - delightful vintage original painting, in a fabulous historic original frame. A great buy.
Painting has some spotting on it, you can see this in the photos. The mount also has a few marks but is overall in good condition. Frame as mentioned has knocks and then some.
