A very attractive vintage half planter - half as it is made to sit flush against a wall. Lovely handmade piece and beautifully painted with bold reds, oranges and greens. It is lovely sturdy pottery, glazed, and then hand painted with the Red Cardinal bird motif and some lovely spring flowers.
Bassano pottery from Italy made these ceramic pottery planters in the mid to late 20th century as they were attractive because of their 'draw and pull to nature'. The lovely bright colourful birds and plants were sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
This particular piece is a good size and although it has a couple of chips, none of them are in obvious places - one is at the top right where the planter will sit against the wall, and the other back left which is also against the wall. There are a couple of manufacturing blips too and some inside staining, but all in all this planter is in marvellous condition. The hand painted motif is is intact, the lovely painted edging and claw feet is very good too. There is no crazing to the glaze and no cracks. It is lovely.
It can be stood freestanding against a wall, or does also have some wire rings for affixing if you so desire. Delightful bright colourful piece - perfect for a bathroom windowsill perhaps, a kitchen shelf, conservatory etc.
