Vintage 50s Painted Cupboard Sideboard with Hand Distressed Bespoke Finish FREE HAND Delivery

This is an outstanding vintage painted cupboard/sideboard.

It is a post-war piece, known as a utility cupboard. Wood was scarce after the war, so most furniture frames were made from either oak or beech, both of which are hardwoods—this one being oak. The panels, backing, etc, were made of veneer on board. Very robust but fairly light.

It has a painted finish, but what makes this piece unusual is that the paint is not a recent addition. Over the years, it appears to have received several coats of paint, and at some point, someone has painstakingly sanded off the top layer. This process has revealed a turquoise-toned finish beneath, along with various shades of cream and white.

As a result, it has what can only be described as a shabby chic finish. There are a few signs of paint runs, which are only noticeable upon close inspection, as they have been sanded down, and actually add to its character.

You'll see that many of the edges have also been sanded down to the wood, giving it a fantastic all-around distressed aesthetic. This is further enhanced by four porcelain-decorated metal handles.

Inside, one side of the cupboard has a shelf, while the other does not, making it highly adaptable for storage purposes. There are also two drawers that run smoothly. The interiors of both the drawers and the cupboard could perhaps benefit from a quick spring clean.

I absolutely love the shape of this piece—it's full of character and charm. Its storage capacity and dimensions make it a versatile addition that would fit well in most homes and rooms.

This will cost us between £60-80 so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
