Unique Vintage 1920s Hand Stripped Oak Fire Screen Guard Stage Coach Charles Dickens
An evocative scene of a coach outside a Red Lion pub. Very much a scene of a Dickensian setting, maybe the often mentioned road from London to Dover in his books.
The frame is made of oak, is robust and has been hand stripped, so the original dark stain has been removed. The wood has been left bare as this is a very popular finish these days, but of course you can polish, oil or paint to your own satisfaction.
The original feet rotate, see images, and are still robust. This was a design feature, presumably so they were easier for the manufacturers to store and transport. Each one is held in place by a heavy duty iron screw.
There is some damage to the tapestry, so please make sure you take a good look at all of the images and utilise the zoom in facility to check the condition.
There are some scare and loose threads, but nothing that impugns the general aesthetics.
There is, and never was, any glass.
