Victorian Rococo Revival Mahogany Chiffoniere 19th Century Antique Sideboard with Carved Pediment & Gothic Panels FREE HAND Delivery

This is an elegant Victorian chiffonier, most likely dating from the mid to late 19th century. Finished in a beautifully figured mahogany veneer over a softwood carcass, it exemplifies the Rococo Revival style with its intricate detailing and refined proportions. The top features a finely scrolled and carved pediment adorned with floral motifs and symmetrical leaf forms. Beneath it, a central display shelf with a shaped edge is supported by ornately scrolled brackets, adding both vertical interest and practical display functionality.

It is mainly made of pine which has been covered in a mahogany veneer, with solid mahogany detailing. a classic Victorian furniture construction method.

The base includes two panelled cupboard doors, each with shapely Gothic-style arched mouldings. Just beneath the top is a discreet drawer, its moulded front designed to blend into the piece, with a hidden handle underneath. Delicately carved corbel supports sit beneath the drawer on either side, enhancing the sense of craftsmanship. The chiffoniere stands on a solid plinth base, consistent with mid-Victorian design principles, and the interior includes one fixed shelf for storage.

Retaining its original French polish or shellac finish, the piece has a deep, lustrous sheen that enhances its age and character. It is structurally sound and in good antique condition, with minor age-related wear. To the left of the keyhole on the lower door, there are two filled areas, and another filled area is visible just above the left side of the display shelf. To the right and left hand edges of the top surface you will see there is some cracking to the veneer.

The top section is screwed to the back and can easily be removed for transport or display flexibility.
