Very Large Genuine Vintage Painted Shabby Chic Wall Mirror in Farrow and Ball Unusual Inner Bevelled Decoration
This is a truly outstanding vintage Victorian mirror.
It is very unusual in that it has four inner lined thin bevels for decoration. You very rarely see this on old mirrors and adds a real twist to the appearance.
The frame is made of wood with a moulded gesso covering. The original finish was tired and as you can see in the images there are a few pieces of gesso missing so I painted it to neutralise the frames deficiencies. It is sold better painted rather than gold with a few lumps of white sticking out where the decoration has been lost.
You really must take a very good look at all the images to check the condition of the frame. There is a piece missing to the very top left and some pieces missing too the very bottom. This actually really adds character to the frame and a difference from all of these moden cheap pressed and moulded MDF trite.
I have painted this in two coats of primer and three top coats of a Farrow and Ball very light cream egg shell. I have then wire woolled the finish so some of the original gold paint from the Victorian era comes through and leaves a lovely contemporary shabby chic finish.
This is an outstanding mirror of fundamentally fantastic quality albeit with a few minor flaws. These may put you off or you may just take the view that this is a Victorian mirror and it is left maybe up to 150 years and the adnoc many ads character and authenticity.
It has a solid pine backing ur eyelets and what looks like the original chain
