Unusual Retro Alabaster Vintage Table Lamp - white marble lamp - 37cm tall

Alabaster, onyx and marble table lamps are quite popular as retro finds. The stone was often mined in Europe and Asia and then sent to Britain to be turned into table lamps, or sent over as original lamps. The stone is very beautiful and has wonderful hidden hues and intrigue in it. But the shape of the lamps is often the same. However this particular alabaster lamp has a more unusual shape - more North African or Southern Mediterranean. It leaves me wondering if this was a lamp that was actually made for the Southern Europe market and over the decades has found its way to Britain. A gorgeously shaped alabaster white lamp! It has wiring from 60s/70s but I think this lamp may be older than that and then 'upgraded' in late 1900s.

The style is unusual as are the carvings. It is also less polished than you would normally find giving it a more rustic and authentic stone like appearance. It has stains and marks on it which may or may not come off, but this all adds to its authenticity and charm. It also has a large crack in the base which appears to have been mended and is fixed tight. The metal detail is very solid and quality brass - it is tarnished with age.

As mentioned above, I think this lamp is likely mid century with wiring done in 70s. It is sold as needing a plug or indeed rewiring. It would be well worth investing in the rewiring as it is a very unusual lamp and rather special. You could of course use a rechargeable lightbulb instead of rewiring - this makes the lamp instantly usable and moveable as you would not be restricted by plug points or cable.
