Unusual Former Shop Stripped Pine Cheval Mirror on Castors.
This is a very unusual piece of furniture.
It is almost certainly late Victorian.
It has been stripped and polished, the polish has worn over the years as it was probably stripped about 30 years ago, so you may well want to freshen that up.
The person who I bought this from thought it had come out of a shop, which would certainly make sense. Household cheval mirrors always had ornate feet and the clunky base on this and the castors would suggest that this was maybe from a clothes shop, and was moved around to suit.
The mirror can be tipped upwards further, although the mechanism that would have held it in place has long gone. The default angle that you can see in the pictures however is more than adequate. You can see in the images that you can just stuff a piece of wood or cardboard behind it if you want to change the angle.
It is quite a rustic piece and very much look of something that was used for commercial purposes and therefore not exactly pretty, however this is quirky and really very lovely.
The glass has not fared too well, there is spotting throughout and various deterioration to the silver behind the glass. You can of course replace this but to be honest with you I would leave it as it is because that just shows the history and adds character and authenticity.
It sits on four castors so is easy to move around.
