I love these as I actually lived in Cape Town!
T W Bowler was one of the few artists capturing life in mid 1800s Cape Town. He was an artist, an art teacher and studio owner. At one point he taught in illustrious schools in Cape Town. He painted a lot of buildings and landscapes in Cape Town and elsewhere in Cape Town, South Africa and elsewhere in Africa. Many of his lithographs were published by Hanhart.
His pictures are super depictions of life in Cape Town at that time. Showing the beginnings of a city which Europeans were developing in their ideal. Simon's Town is a Naval Port then and now, Government House may well be what is now Tuyn House, the Presidents House in Cape Town, the Public Library and Museum are still very much in existence in the city.
The prints are beautifully framed and professionally framed by Blatchley in Hastings. They do show some signs of age and wear but they just need a tidy up and they are ready to hang. All glazed, black wood with gilt detail. Cream mounts, thick and original The prints are in good condition although do show their age with some slight discolouring and mottling. But all in all still in very good condition.
Sizes : 43cm x 35cm frame, 29cm x 22cm print
