A masterpiece as far as tapestries are concerned, Exquisite attention to detail in this North African town scene tapestry. The tapestry shows men, women and children in Islamic dress in a street bordered by Arabic influenced architecture. The colours are muted and really bring to life a scene that is no doubt in a hot arid country.
A tapestry completed in around 1930s, and then framed most recently in the 1990s. The frame is a classic 90s wooden frame with glazing and some inside gilt edging. Ready to hang if you keep the frame as is. The tapestry is in remarkable condition. It is so lifelike and has not suffered much wear over the decades. The frame has minor signs of wear, odd chip or mark etc.
On the rear of the frame you can see more info on the tapestry - bought in Gibraltar in approx 1930, hence the assumption it was completed in North Africa. Framed by a UK buyer in 1995.
I do hope the video and photos give you a good sense of this glorious tapestry. It is a piece of art. Personally, whilst the frame is in vgc, I would possibly try and frame it in an older vintage frame to really give you the sense of the age and marvel of this piece.
