Superb Set of 4 Upholstered Walnut Art Deco Dining Kitchen Chairs

Showing here is a set of four walnut art deco chairs.
These are not perfect, the price reflects this, but they are perfectly fit for purpose and as you can see absolutely wonderful to look at and of the highest style and quality.
I know you can't gauge quality by weight but certainly in this case the above average weight of these chairs is down to the quality of the build, wood and materials.
The distinctive backrests are made of solid walnut and the lower half of the chairs are a walnut veneer except the back legs, I think. These must have cost an absolute fortune when they were first retailed to actually have such a large area intricately veneered must have been a highly skilled and painstaking process.
I would imagine this was part of a dining suite.
Being nearly 100 years old and obviously well used I would describe the finish as age worn, there are a few blemishes and general wear to the frames which if you are a fastidious type of person craving perfection will probably put you off. But if these were perfect they would be £2000.
The upholstery I would describe as adequate but not amazing for such beautiful chairs. However I would say due to the quality of these chairs they are well worth getting reupholstered to a higher standard. But I would also say if you just want some beautiful top quality art deco chairs that look amazing frankly they're fine as they are. The fabric is all intact and the seats are comfortable. There are a couple of patches of staining which may or may not clean off.
Aesthetically the frames look fantastic. There are a few patches where the veneer has been lost which have been filled in historically. To the right hand side of the carver chair there was a split which has been filled. I'm obviously limited to the number of images I can show but as I would consider this to be the main blemish I have shown this in the images.
There are signs of general wear but on the whole as you can see I would consider it to be in good condition.
The carver has the most faults. A filled joint, some veneer missing and filled to the front bottom right of the back. Some missing and filled veneer to the back of the chair and a few tiny pieces of missing and filled veneer to the front stretcher below the front of the seat.
Another seat has again a small piece of veneer missing and filled to the front stretcher below the front of the seat a stain to the front right of the upholstery and a small piece of veneer missing and filled to the bottom right front leg.
There a few tiny and redundant worm holes to bottom of one leg but the area is totally fine.

These chairs are sturdy. Again however you will see on the photos of the underneath of the chairs metal braces have been added to the back legs which don't look great The upshot of which is however that the chairs are perfectly sturdy and completely fit for purpose but not perfect.
If you're looking for a perfect set of chairs then continue your search. I have seen these in perfect condition and they are often well into four figures. The beauty of these chairs is they are worn a little bit though they are perfectly fit for purpose and you really don't have to be neurotic about using them and worrying about their care. They are incredibly well made and perfect for everyday use.
