This is a really wonderful and unusual standard lamp. I bought the lamp separately and was fortunate enough to locate a lampshade amongst my past collection of spares that suits it very well.
The lamp is 1930s and the lampshade probably 1960s or 70s.
The velvet has been glued to the 1930s carcass of the lamp. From what I can make out the column of the lamp is made of chrome and it has a turned wooden base. You can see in between the base and the column a circular chrome piece and another below the remnant of the bayonet. It has bun feet and if you look underneath you can see evidence of the age of the lamp. The red velvet to the column and the beautiful braiding, which I think is cotton, is on the whole very well preserved. There are patches of wear and tear to the base that I hope you can make out in the images.
It will need rewiring. I have literally perched the lampshade on the lampshade support attachment that will come with this, on the bayonet as this is broken.
I have to admit that material is not one of my strong points. The lampshade is one that was hanging around in my warehouse from a previous large collection of lampshades I purchased as an auction. There are some small holes to the inner lining but the outside appears to be in very good condition. I do not know what the material is and I do not know how to describe the design suffice to say in bleak terms the material overlaps. There is an inner metal frame so it will sit on the accompanying lampshade rest that you can attach to the bayonet. I will send the lampshade separately.
I think this looks absolutely amazing and would be a real talking point and I can tell you nobody certainly will never see another one like it! It does need rewiring however it does come with a very long wire flex.
Do please take a good look at all the images to check the condition. As well as the flaws mentioned there are other minor surface marks commensurate with age.
