Stunning Huge Chunky Victorian Gold Gilt Wall Mirror French.
This mirror is collection only. As I will explain it is very delicate. You are welcome to source a proper courier and take the risk yourself. However I live in one of the nicest towns in the UK, Lewes, so why not spend a day down here and collect yourself?
It is Victorian.
I am pretty certain it is French.
It is made of a pine carcass with numerous moulded decorations made of gesso. Solid wooden backing.
The gold you see is the original finish. There are areas of gold oxidisation where it has turned a bit green. This is a natural process.
To the top is a bouquet of flowers and ribbons. The left-hand side of the ribbon has been damaged and you can see a split but it is still intact, but wobbles. You will the bouquet is to the left of the original brass hanging eyelet. You can adjust this but as is the decoration sits to the left of the centre of the top.
As you look at the mirror it is pretty much in very good condition.
The very nature of the design sees various parts standing out to the edges and side and these have naturally over time been damaged.
The top and right-hand side are still very well preserved. There are two areas to the bottom where the decoration has been lost and the broken area has been painted in a gold or touched up.
The piece poking out to the bottom left hand corner has been broken but remains in situ.
There are few other areas that have been touched up and some other poking out parts that seem to be a bit loose, but apart from the two lost pieces to the bottom it is still on the whole intact.
It is an absolutely amazing mirror, yes some damaged parts, but the overall look and condition makes it look fantastic.
The original glass is bevelled and for the age very well preserved.
