A beautiful set of four vintage wooden ladder-back chairs with woven rush seats, perfect for adding rustic charm to a kitchen, dining room, or country cottage setting. These classic chairs feature turned legs and stretchers, showcasing traditional craftsmanship that blends well with both farmhouse and French provincial interior styles.
The frames are robustly made from elm, ensuring fine quality, and they remain very sturdy. They have an old dark-stained finish that has worn in places over the years, leaving a delightful, slightly distressed but antique-looking patina.
The handwoven rush seats are wonderful—durable, comfortable, and very well preserved. Originally, these chairs would have had thin lengths of wood running around the sides of the seats, most of which have been lost over time. One chair still has them fully intact, another has two and another has a single stretcher remaining at the back. Importantly, though, the rush seating is still intact.
In terms of age, I would estimate they date from the 1970s, offering the benefit of a vintage chair that is still well-preserved and, unusually for old chairs, remains very sturdy.
