Painted by Marius Girard (1927–2014) the French artist renowned for his vibrant watercolour depictions of Parisian scenes. This wonderful painting is of a landmark Parisian landmark scene of Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe. Likely painted in the 1950s and then printed, is framed in a wonderful straightforward retro wooden glazed frame. In excellent condition. It is a signed and labelled print by Girard.
Girard's technique involved sketching scenes with a sharpened stick dipped in ink to create varied lines and textures, followed by the application of watercolor washes. Girard's art gained significant recognition, leading to commissions like creating 135 watercolor paintings for the lobby and rooms of the Hotel Hilton in Paris. He also sold his original works on the streets of Montmartre, contributing to his widespread popularity.
This painting is delightful and so very French. A wonderful reminder of this fantastic city. All of its charm, character and romance. The print is fabulous condition - printed on water colour paper to give a more authentic look and then framed. The frame has a few nicks and marks on it, commensurate with age. It is glazed and has the original chain on it - ready to hang. Signed.
