A truly wonderful print of this famous Renoir painting, The First Outing or At The Theatre. It is a numbered print (no. 541) suggesting it is a special print, not a modern cheaper copy. It is super quality and is in a very heavy ornate carved wooden gilt frame with some labelling on the back. It is very large measuring 64.5cm x 79cm incl the frame.
The young lady in the painting is Julie Manet, the young daughter of fellow artist Berthe Morisot and her husband, Eugène Manet. Morisot and Renoir were both Impressionist artists. The painting was completed in 1875. The original painting was 65cm x 54cm - very much like the size of this painting. So this print in the frame is almost an exact replica in size.
As mentioned above the frame housing this print is exceptional. It is large and heavy. Lovely wooden frame with gilt decorative finish. The outer edges are a lovely carved wood making it quite attractive and worthy of housing this lovely print. It is heavy, so once again a quality piece. It has wire and so is ready to hang. The back has been newly fitted, well a few years ago, but makes it quite well taken care of.
Hard to date this print and frame - but I would say it is possibly 1960s/70s - made to look as though it is much older.
