Vintage Victorian Rosewood Upholstered Stool Superb Quality but Needs TLC
This is an absolutely beautiful and top quality stool that needs some restoration.
It was made during the Victorian era and at the time would have been a truly top quality piece evidenced by the fact that it is still very solid.
The feet are made of rosewood, a very expensive wood, with a rosewood veneer to the sides.
Despite the faults to the stool, the four legs are all in good condition and are well preserved, so you have an excellent platform for a restoration job.
However, do not discount just leaving it as is and just cutting the loose threads away, because as is, it's a beautiful age worn stool with absolutely bags of character.
The embroidered material has worn quite badly in places, although you obviously can see generally it's not a complete write off, it is actually a very delightful if slightly knackered fabric that has been hand decorated. You can see especially to the side it is split and you can see the horsehair stuffing underneath. Beneath the sides of material, quite a lot of the original veneer missing as you can see the pine underneath. I suppose you could actually just stain the exposed areas if you wished.
Anyway, there are lots of photographs, so take a good look at the images and you can keep as is or just restore to whatever level you wish. What you have is a platform for a superb piece of furniture as this was once a top notch piece!
I must add that over the years the centre of the still has seat a little bit.
