Pair of Vintage Iron Victorian Tennis Net Posts Multun-in- Parvo’ Halifax. Architectural Antique What a superb pair of architectural sporting antiques these are. Utterly charming and evocative. I am selling these as I have found them pretty much as they would have ended their practical purpose. I sell lots of similar things for props to TV and Film companies. But if you have the right house these were just look amazing being displayed as is as quirky pieces of our Victorian sporting past. They really fill the imagination, thinking of all the people who made of use them, tightened them, played round them. Think of all the fun times and probably in some huge garden with the parties and the general gallivanting! The two posts slot into the bases, although one appears stuck in at the moment and only one is loose. You can see underneath the post there would have been a concrete base and the holes you see to the iron platforms would of secured the posts in place to take the weight and strength of the net. The manufacturer stamp is ‘Multun-in- Parvo’ Halifax, whom from what I can make out manufactured various games products, from these sorts of items to playing cards. From what I can make out they were in business from 1884-1927 There are 6 ringlets to each post. I cannot currently get the handle to work however all seems to be intact and the mechanism that you see is made of brass, although very much oxidised. Two posts on one of the bases are painted and as you can see a rust has formed in places although this is just a surface rust. This is a superb and quirky pair of amazing Victorian industrial/architectural iron work and would make a fantastic statement piece in your home whether you clean them up or just leave them as file now age worn and delightful Base 45 x 32 cm Height 108 cm
