Outstanding Vintage Mahogany Over Mantel Mirror with Amazing Carved Feature.
This is an absolutely outstanding vintage Victorian over mantel mirror.
The carved feature to the top is so rare, and in all my years of dealing, I've never seen anything like it. It melts in brilliantly with the curves of the top of the mirror. The main parts of the mirror are very befitting of such a feature as it is also of exceptional quality. This must have been pride of place in a very grand house.
It is brilliantly preserved as well. The condition is excellent you can see in the photos there is part of one of the small carvings where there is a small piece missing but it really gets lost in the general theme things and doesn't notice. You can see where I have pointed to it in the images.
The four pieces of bevelled glass are also very well preserved and in very good condition. Just a few surface marks which only really notice on close inspection. It always amazes me sometimes how something can go 150 years and still be in such good condition.
The build quality of this over mantel is outstanding the craftsmanship and the quality of the wood are a throwback to when we led the world with furniture manufacture.
It has a pine boarded back and currently just two mirror plates for wall attachment, which if you are using as an over mantel is perfectly ample as the mantle piece will take the weight. Of course, this would look amazing anywhere in the house, in particular a hallway or above a bed.
