A lovely 1960s original oil painting, painted by artist F Sheppard from Braunton in Devon. It is signed and framed. There is a little card tucked in the back of the painting, as old as the painting itself, saying Filleigh Village Hall, Devon.
So, this painting could be of Filleigh Village Hall. It certainly looks like a village hall beautifully set at the edge of countryside village. Shaded by trees and enjoying all the wonderful summer blooms.
The quality of the painting is good so even if F Sheppard wasn't a world renowned master, his depiction is excellent. The trees, flowers, building are all very well painted.
As a vintage painting there are signs of age. The painting it self has a bit of a knock in the top left, occasional markings. Almost all in the sky area. The rest of it is not bad at all. The frame needs a bit of tlc now because it is damaged or broken, but a bit of a clean, one corner a bit open, and a possible clean.
It is ready to hang. The little card still tucked in. The frame is typical 1960s with a composite wood surround and material finish - beige, cream, gold
It is a charming country village painting ready to be loved by someone with a connection to place or painter, or someone who loves vintage oils or landscapes.
We googled the village hall and although the colours are the same the current village hall at Filleigh is much bigger so maybe it used to be smaller and was expanded?
