How wonderful is this original water colour, labelled by the British 20th century artist, Joan Hadfield. Labelled on the back as "Sunrise at Cos, 1958". A mid century early retro painting in a glazed retro frame - beautifully calming and inspiring. A gorgeous sandy beach with fishing boats in the foreground, the mountains and rising sun on the horizon.
Joan Hadfield was as Artist from Sussex, UK. She was born in November 1916 and painted extensively including still life and landscape paintings. Ms Hadfield was appointed to The Society of Women Artists Limited, from which she resigned in March 2005 at the age of 88. Her paintings sell well at auction, most noticeably auctions in and around Sussex. However they have sold further afield.
This particular painting is not the same subject as many of her other paintings, she must have been travelling and took her paints with her, captured this scene and returned home and had it framed in Balcombe, which is in Sussex.
The painting itself is in wonderful condition, the frame and mount are mid century/retro and do show ageing, spotting and markings, and the gilt wooden frame is chipped in places. As it is, it is very much ready to hang of you are looking for an authentic piece of original vintage British art. You could of course reframe it if you so wished.
