This stunning and substantial late 19th-century Victorian overmantel mirror is a fine example of Gothic Revival craftsmanship, featuring intricate hand-carved detailing in rich oak with a deep, warm patina. Dating to the 1880s, this architectural mirror showcases elaborate open fretwork across the top, baluster gallery detail, and finely carved floral motifs running down the stiles and apron, all typical of the High Victorian aesthetic. The crest is especially striking with its scrolled and pierced foliate design, flanked by turned finials, lending a strong visual presence that commands attention in any setting.
The mirror itself is bevelled and set within a deeply moulded frame, original to the piece, and remains clear with only minor age-related clouding and speckling which adds character without impairing functionality. The solid oak frame is in excellent antique condition, completely intact, with tight joints and an even finish, though it bears minor nicks and wear consistent with age and use. The back is panelled and retains its original boards, confirming authenticity.
