This vintage Brexton picnic set for four, is housed in a classic mid-20th century very thick and quality card suitcase, with two wonderful latching locks. It even has an ‘airing vent’ at the front of the suitcase. The sturdy suitcase, covered in a mottled red leatherette look has reinforced edges and once opened by its secure metal clasp, it opens to reveal a beautifully organized interior. Pattern number 7995.
Inside, you'll find original Brexton picnic essentials, including ceramic plates and saucers, ceramic cups, stainless steel cutlery, storage containers, food boxes, salt and pepper cellars and vacuum flasks, all neatly arranged in secure straps. The case shows some light wear in places and general marking consistent with its age, adding to its vintage charm. It would probably come up a treat if cleaned, and I have given it a once over, but didn’t want to clean too hard in case the buyer wanted a more vintage and aged look.
The items themselves have been cleaned by me for the set – in doing so, I have been able to appreciate this wonderful picnic set and truly hope it goes to a good home. The items are used – which in itself is delightful – a family must have had such enjoyment with this set. The china cups, plates etc are all intact with no chips or cracks, just some crazing and wear commensurate with age. The cutlery is chrome plated, some very minor tarnishing.
It can be used for its original purpose, by a production house for theatre, school, film etc. This picnic set in all its original glory is a perfect addition for collectors or anyone looking for a nostalgic, functional piece for outdoor dining.
Don’t forget it also has two thermos flasks – Made in England – for those hot cuppas.
As a set for four, everything is here bar one knife and one cup. I hope this doesn’t deter you from buying this wonderful set which is a perfect mid century example of style and practicality.
