Who doesn’t love a bit of nostalgia and vintage accent in a room – and this is the perfect thing if you are looking for coal storage box, or a storage box in general. A lovely vintage solid wooden box with brass covering – the embossed brass cover details medieval scenes inside a tavern of some sort, and a discussion amongst fellow folk. Great condition little box considering its age, and just perfect for its original use, or to be repurposed for another purpose – could even be a coffee or end table.
These really are lovely units which have stood the test of time. Very popular in mid-century as part of a gothic, medieval revival. And of course super practical and very well made. The original wooden box was often made out of oak, and the brass molded or embossed cover heralded previous century designs. They have hinged lids and small wooden feet to stand on. These are intact in this box.
As a mid-century piece, the vintage box comes with signs of age. Some minor marks on the brass, the wood has aged and some edging is lifted, but to be honest it really is very good condition. Still solid and definitely usable. I have cleaned down the outside (but not polished!) and dusted out the inside, but I think the inside will still be dusty when it arrives from use.
What about using this as an end table, or storage box in your living room, kitchen etc. Doesn’t have to be used for coal – wood? Kindling? Etc. Just a very lovely vintage piece for your home.
