A smashing mid-century 1950s-60s wooden stool with light grey blue plastic vinyl seat. It is in fantastic condition for its age. Made by Ben Chairs Ltd from Somerset, UK (labelled). Light golden wooden frame, likely beech, and the well preserved plastic vinyl covered top. In good clean condition. VG vintage condition.
Ben Chairs Ltd was reknown for its quality craftsmanship and innovative designs back in the day. They specialised in clean lines, splayed legs and ergonomic forms - all reminiscent of this stool. Very Scandi which was common in the mid-century too. The stool has the Ben Chairs label underside as well as the word Stoe on it, which was a line made by Ben Chairs for durable public building use eg. schools. These stools were incredibly hard wearing and the vinyl tops wipeable, which is why it still looks so good after all these years.
Wonderful stool for a retro mid-century accent in a home - perfect as an extra perch in a living room, playroom, kitchen etc. Not very tall, so great for children or for a low desk, or as that extra perch for someone who is lounging. Very neutral in colour so easily versatile for lots of colour schemes. Would suit a contemporary home too, but with all the retro look and feel of Scandu
The stool is in fantastic condition considering its age and to have the original plastic seat in it is remarkable - untouched - tiny minor marks but hardly noticeable. The wooden frame does show odd signs of age, but nothing to worry about. All marks etc are commensurate with age.
The stool has been cleaned down and is ready to use, or you can do a more thorough refurb job if you so wished, but is good to use.
This is a fun and practical stool. It will definitely bring an element of mid-century early retro delight to your home. Great size to perch upon. Please look at photos and video
