I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fire screen as large as this. And let’s face it, if you’re looking for a huge screen to match a huge fireplace, this could be just what you need.

This is an impressively large, curved vintage metal fire screen, likely dating from the 1920s. It’s crafted with a dark mesh front and supported by strikingly ornate scroll feet. While fully functional as a spark guard, it also serves as a standout decorative piece for any traditional or period fireplace.

The frame itself shows a wonderful combination of metals. Originally, I believe it was made from brass or steel with brass and silver type plated finish. Over the years, that finish has worn beautifully, revealing an intriguing mix of brass, silver, and even hints of copper at the top. The result is a rich, organic patina, a naturally developing surface with a few minor areas of tarnish and oxidisation that only add to its charm.
The overall effect is absolutely fantastic: a compelling and characterful mishmash of metals effects and a real vintage masterpiece.

Unusually, the mesh is completely intact, with no visible damage or loss. It’s attached to the frame with wire fastenings, some of which have loosened slightly over time, but this does not affect the screen’s performance or stability in any way.

The ornate feet are another highlight, cast in metal with the same aged mix of colour tones and a strong, solid presence. They offer both decorative appeal and dependable support. This is clearly a piece of superb quality, and let’s be honest, it was made for a very large, high-status house with a substantial fireplace, something that nearly always indicates craftsmanship of the highest order.

These will be delivered by hand by a proper furniture courier.
Delivery is free to mainland England and Wales only.
There will be a cost anywhere else so please, contact us for a quote.
This will cost us between £60-80 to deliver, so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
It will take about 2 weeks.
