Massive Antique Oval Gilt Mirror Ornate Rococo Revival Wall Mirror Acanthus Leaf Frame Vintage French Style 103 x 57 cm FREE HAND Delivery

This absolutely massive and stunning large antique oval mirror dates to the mid 20th century, likely around the 1950s or 1960s, and features a beautifully ornate gilt gesso frame in the Rococo Revival style. The frame is deeply moulded with an openwork design of scrolling acanthus leaves, adding a richly decorative flourish that instantly elevates any space. The original gilded finish has aged gracefully, revealing a warm, mellow gold patina with areas of wear and crackle that only enhance its authentic charm and antique character. The beautifully thick mirror glass is bevelled and is original, offering a gently timeworn reflective surface without any major faults, just the light surface ageing expected from a piece of this era. I have to say for the age, the glass is on excellent condition.

The frame is made of wood with the gesso covering and original finish.

This mirror is ideally suited as a statement wall piece above a fireplace, in a hallway, or as a dramatic dressing room addition. It could also be leaned casually against a wall for a relaxed, romantic touch to a vintage-inspired interior. While the back has a replacement hardboard panel for stability and hanging, the overall construction remains solid. There are some small losses to the gesso along the edges and at the base, visible in close-up but not structurally compromising. These imperfections reflect its genuine age and lend a sense of history and provenance. You will see the missing gesso has been touched up with black and gold so it is well concealed and as it at the bottom of the mirror, relatively inconsequential.
