Outstanding Unique Bronzed Effect Metal Standard Lamp. Intriguing Carved Effect Dragon and Bird of Paradise Oriental.
This is a very unusual standard lamp. Shape wise it has a real look of the 1960s to it, but it could be as earlier. The column and base are all made of good quality metal that I cannot identify. May well be spelter or just solid brass.
There are a few areas where the dark finish has been compromised and underneath there is a gold colour which would suggest brass. Certainly the very underside of the lamp is a gold colour. Either way it is a finish and technique I cannot be certain of.
It is in working order although you may want to upgrade the wiring etc,
It is basically very well preserved, there are signs of wear to the base with a moulded design of birds of paradise. On the 6 mouldings on the turned column are dragons. Look closely at the images there is almost a troika like look to them. It seems to have a bit of an identity crisis caught between the classic oriental looking base and the English pottery column!
You have probably worked out I'm pretty uncertain about this and it's been sitting beside my desk for a month now as I've tried to fathom how to describe it and I've tried to research a little. Which does of course mean it is very unusual and rare. The description I have given is my own opinion and you really need to have a good look at the images yourself and satisfy yourself as to the aesthetic appearance of the lamp on the details.
It is generally in very good condition with just occasional surface marks.
