This is a really impressive fire screen. Basically, intact but with some flaws.
It is Victorian. Superb build quality, made of seemingly two woods, mahogany and the blacker wood I am not sure, it does not seem to be stained?
Have a good look at the images as you may know better than I do. It is very heavy and the panels are very thick.
Apart form some surface marks it is pretty well preserved. Could certainly do with a clean and polish, although perfectly usable as is.
The main flaw is the split from the top centre down to the carving and further below.
Someone has repaired this. The split is rigid now and has been filled so there are no gaps.
The central carving does not sit plum as there is a couple of millimetres gap between the top of the carving and the main panel.
Unusual and complicated looking hinger that you may want to tighten but again, are perfectly fit for purpose. It looks like holes to the top but this si just the configuration and design of the hinges.
Despite my running it down, as you can see in the images, this is a beautiful and top quality fire screen.
