Large Vintage Painted Brown Gold Gilt Oval Decorative Wall Mirror.
This is a beautiful late Victorian gold/brown decorative mirror.
The frame is made of solid pine and is as solid as the day it was made.
It is covered in a moulded plaster or gesso.
I'm certain this is not the original finish. This is very much a muted gold colour almost merging with brown and it certainly looks to be a later application but not particularly recently. I like this because I think so many of these gold mirrors that you see online today, which are a lot newer, are so bright they look quite tacky. There is a soft sheen to this finish.
There are a few surface marks to the frame otherwise very well preserved. There are a few small pieces of beading missing from the inner aperture but as these gaps have been painted over they do not really notice
I'm delighted to say the original glass is still very well preserved with just a few black marks behind the glass that you would expect with any old mirror, but I have to say in comparison to many others of this this age the condition is very good.
There is a boarded backing. There are two eyelets for attaching to the wall which currently have some rather hefty wire attached to them which you will probably want to remove. Of course you can hang this the other way by just adjusting the mirror plates.
I've taken a lot of pictures so please take the time to study them well and use the zoom in facility so that you can really get a feel for the product and condition.
