Large Vintage Gold and Painted Over Mantel Mirror Victorian with Wonderful Carved Features.

I have to say this is a mirror that has left me confused slightly.
The easy bit is that it is a beautiful Victorian over mantel mirror.
The carcass is made of pine and it is covered in a moulded gesso and the actual main part is painted in an old light cream gloss.
Although there are some surface marks to the paint, this is generally quite well preserved.
The strange thing is the beautiful carved features. These are definitely Victorian as well and if you see the underside of the corner decoration you can see they are almost certainly made for this mirror however you will see the corner parts are just held in place by two pins so it does not seem quite right.
This is important because I'm not going to risk this being delivered with the carvings exposed as by the looks of it they have already been broken as there is evidence of them being re glued, I can assure you they are intact and perfectly sturdy though. So the three decorative carved features are going to be boxed and sent separately for safekeeping, the corner pieces are easy to re attach, you simply put the pins in the holes and I hope you can see this in the close up image I have taken.
It may be an idea to shove some No More Nails or something to the back of them, but presently they fit and attach fine. The top part is screwed in place to a couple of metal braces which are easy to reattach. So please don't by this if it is outside your skill set too reassemble but as I say I'm not going to risk them being broken.
I assume these were the original features to the mirror and maybe when it was painted in the cream colour the features were removed and put back in place in the way I have described. Certainly the current gold decoration does appear to be the original decoration so maybe the cream frame was also that colour as well and the carvings removed for the painting process.
As I say there are signs of wear on the main central carving which you can see in the image is where the gold has been lost and you can see the bare wood underneath. To both corner parts there are signs of then being historically re glued.
The mirror boasts the original thick Victorian glass, there is some spotting and other minor blemishes in between the silver and the glass and you will see about four inches from the bottom there is a black line behind the glass, heaven knows what caused that but I always think that these age worn blemishes actually add to the character of the mirror and with so many imported reproduction mirrors around, with this you really can just tell this genuine old beautiful mirror it has a solid pine backing and three metal mirror plates for attachment.
