Large Early 20th Century Vintage Cheval Mirror. Solid Wood.
A beautiful, outstanding and top quality vintage painted cheval mirror.
When I bought this it had already been painted and I have applied a further four coats of Farrow and Ball Wimborne White Estate Eggshell which has a lovely soft sheen.
Farrow and Ball describe Wimborne White as follows-
This just off white is named after the market town of Wimborne in Dorset and home to Farrow & Ball. 'Only a shade away from a pure white, the addition of the smallest amount of warm yellow pigment creates a very versatile shade which is just a little softer than All White.'
I would date this as very early 20th century and I think originally it was a inlaid mahogany so of very high quality. Before I painted it there have been a few chips and you can see the inlay underneath.
The mirror tilts forwards and backwards.
It sits on 4 metal castors.
This lovely cheval mirror is very solid and obviously very well made.
That are some minor blemishes to the right of the mirror to the silver behind the glass to the very top right. I hope you can see this in the images. Apart from that the original bevelled mirror is in good condition for the age. To be honest so I think the dark cracks, I mention, that show actually give it a nice authentic look.
I would consider the mirror to be in very good condition. The decoration you see to the top centre was added at a later date, to be more accurate probably the 1970s, this is because this sort of decoration was prevalent during this. And all it was made of was a moulded plastic which would have been pinned onto the frame. However I think it looks really good and add a little bit of decoration to what is a relatively simple design. This has been painted over of course.
Please take a good look at all the images and utilise zoom in facility to check the condition.
