Wow. this is a truly gorgeous vintage table lamp. In oriental Chinese vase style. Very detailed and attractive and colourful patterns painted on the lamp - lots of botanical and nature scenese. Sits atop a carved dark wooden base. Working condition. VGC. Large lamp - very pretty and elegant.
The vase style lamp is quite classic - a little bit more elegant than a ginger jar style lamp. Often decorated in oriental inspired themese - this patterned lamp is a little different, it has a more Western feel to the very decorative patterning and paintings, but still quite mythical and entrancing. Even after what must be close on 50 years, the colours are as vibrant as ever.
The lamp is tall and will take a good sized shade - the shade could be a traditional Empire or Bell shaped shade, but doesn't have to be. It could carry off a bold contemporary fabric or something more traditional like chintz or jacquard. The lamp base is a star on its own, so will create a statement with whatever shade is used.
I do think this lamp dates from the 1970s - there are signs of age in its brass lid, the bulb fitment etc. It also has classic signs of age and wear on the ceramic and wood, but nothing too noticeable or to worry about. It is a genuine vintage item, not a modern replica. It is sold as working but has not been professionally tested. It is sold with an updated plug and 3 amp fuse.
