This is a large and very attractive antique overmantel mirror, likely from the Victorian period, dating from the late 19th century.
It was probably originally placed above a fireplace or on a sideboard in a formal living room or hallway, reflecting classic Victorian style with hints of Classical and Georgian influence.
The mirror features fluted pilasters along the sides of the frame and intricately carved acanthus scrolls at the lower corners. A bold cornice with a stepped crown tops the piece, adding to its architectural presence.
The bevelled mirror is beautifully preserved for its age and adds a refined touch. Crafted from either walnut or mahogany with a rich stained finish, this is a high-quality piece, possibly even French polished, showing fine craftsmanship throughout.
The back is constructed from plain solid pine planks. This mirror would make an excellent statement piece in a period property, especially when placed above a fireplace.
