Japanese Garden Bowl Set - Pagoda Garden, Olde Alton Ware by Swinnertons, 1920s/30s -

Such a pretty set and in remarkable condition given its age. Lovely oriental scene of a Pagoda in a garden. Titled "Olde Alton Ware" but also known as "Japanese Garden" given the subject matter. Dates from the early half of the 20th century - 1920s/30s and made by Swinnertons who then became part of Royal Doulton (1970s). This large bowl and four small bowls are truly lovely and vgc. They could be used for dessert and pudding bowls, salad bowls etc.

Olde Alton Ware was styled on the gardens of the original Alton Estate - now the home to Alton Towers the theme park. What a change - from Pagodas and Japanese gardens to rollercoasters. The pattern is a blue and white transfer pattern on a lovely pottery base. Very dainty but not too dainty - they have stood the test of time after all!

Smaller bowls have the full stamp, large bowl not.

Lovely set - small bowls are approx 16cm diameter and 4cm deep; large bowl approx 23cm diameter and 6.5cm deep
