Originally designed for two people working opposite each other, this desk now offers a more versatile use. You may prefer to use it as a spacious desk to spread out on, or you could add a ply or MDF surface and repurpose it as a workstation—perfect for artisans or specialists needing a solid work surface with storage underneath.
As shown in the images, the left-hand side features three working drawers, while the right-hand side houses a cupboard. Additionally, on one side, there is a neat hole for wire access, likely for a computer setup. On the other pedestal, there is a larger hole, made with less precision, likely added for the same purpose.
Inside the cupboards, there are signs that shelves were originally fitted, suggesting these modifications were made later. To be clear, both the left and right interiors show various signs of use, including holes and marks. Additionally, two strips of wood on either side within the leg area. indicate where a dividing panel once existed but has long since been removed.
The two pedestal bases sit on elegant cabriole feet. The fronts of the drawers and cupboards feature beautiful mahogany veneer, reflecting top-quality craftsmanship. The cupboards are missing their keyholes, but all the drawer handles are intact. The drawers run smoothly and are clean, so it’s a bit of give and take in terms of condition.
There are three drawers on either side of the top section, which is in excellent condition for its age. The leatherette top has only a few minor marks, as shown in the images, and these are barely noticeable.
Overall, the desk appears to be constructed from solid wood, with a mix of natural finishes and high quality veneers. The images show some surface wear, scuffs and patina on the bases, indicating frequent use over the years. It is intact. The top may have once had a protective covering as this is in excellent condition.
I would estimate the desk dates to the 1970s. It is a beautifully made piece with high-quality features. It splits into three sections for easy transport and access. If you have a large enough space, this would make a striking addition to your home. Alternatively, if you have a converted garage or warehouse space, it would serve multiple purposes beautifully.
It would make a great work bench if you are an artisan creator, the size and multiple storage options, with some board or vinyl applied to the top, would make this amazingly practical.
