Huge Stunning Victorian Swig Dressing Table Mirror with Trinket Compartment. High Society.
A high-quality Victorian dressing table. A mirror that over the years would have reflected ladies of the aristocracy!
It is superbly crafted from solid mahogany; the base is a thick veneer on pine. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. There are problems with the glass but, as you can see in the images, the wood is superbly preserved and in great condition.
It is fully intact.
Within the trinket compartment is bare wood and there would have originally been a blue paper covering throughout.
The glass is the sticking point for potential buyers. I love it, but you may want to replace it.
It is very much ‘age worn.’ Take a good look at the images, I have tried to show the reflection from my ceiling so you can see the faults. Spotting, internal flaking of the silver and some blotchiness.
I am sure the manufacturers would be crushed to see 150 years on their carpentry withstand the rigours of time only to be let down by the glass manufacturers!
However, the flaws are very much part of the life of the mirror and add authenticity and character. The reflection is perfectly okay, if you look at the right area!
The mirror tilts. It has a brass axis. The original tightening screws have been lost and there are makeshift bolts. Obviously, these cannot be seen except from the rear.
The right-hand mirror support slightly leans towards you. You will not notice this, I certainly did not until I properly checked it out, it only notices if you look from the side and even then, not that noticeable.
There are a few tiny dents to the top of the left hand finial, again only notice very close up.
Please take a good look at the images and use the zoom in facility to check the condition.
It is a superb piece of furniture, almost a museum piece.
I am not going to risk packaging this and will send it with a proper furniture delivery company. I will cover half of the costs as it will be expensive.
