A High-Quality Late Victorian Iron Fireplace Fender

This is a beautifully crafted late Victorian iron fireplace fender. The decorative motif is made of brass, and the top trim maybe steel, which gives it its silver toned finish. When I purchased this, it was entirely covered in black paint, remnants of which can still be seen on the tray.

I have left the paint on the tray but have stripped much of it from the front and sides. I deliberately preserved some areas with the original pattern to retain a characterful, contemporary distressed finish.

Please take a close look at the images to get a clear idea of the finish, I have wiped some oil over it to create a soft sheen. Of course, you can clean it further if desired.

The tray has two side sections that likely once held perches for fire irons. The raised iron decoration in the centre is designed to prevent fire irons from sliding around, and there are two redundant holes to either side which may have been used for attaching the fender to the floor.

The fender is primarily made of solid iron and is not thin or flimsy, this is a high-quality, substantial piece with a good weight to it.

The decorative elements are completely intact, and the tray remains firmly attached. You will notice a cut out at the back of the tray, which was likely shaped to fit a specific fireplace arrangement. If necessary, this could be further adjusted by someone with the right tools.

This will cost us between £60-80 so if you wish collect from Lewes in East Sussex we will refund the saved courier charges.
The couriers will arrange a day and time window with you.
Delivery is to the front door. Should the item be large the courier will need a hand your end or contact us and we will arrange a more expensive two man delivery.
It will take about 2 weeks.
